    Francis Bacon In few words

Francis Bacon made some of the most famous images of wounded and traumatized people in art after the war. He took ideas from Surrealism, film, photography, and the Old Masters to create a unique style that made him one of the most well-known figurative artists of the 1940s and 1950s. Bacon spent most of his time making portraits of people who went to bars and clubs in London's Soho neighborhood. Always, the people he depicted were violently distorted, almost as if they were pieces of meat. They are isolated souls, tormented by existential dilemmas, and alone. Bacon was one of the most successful British painters of the 20th century, and his reputation rose even more when the "art world" started painting again in the 1980s. After he died, some thought he was one of the world's most important painters.

    Bacon style and else...

Bacon's paintings show strong emotions. The whole tableaux seem to scream, not just the people on them. Bacon's ability to make strong statements was a big part of what made him so good at painting.

Surrealism and biomorphism helped shape the style of Three Studies for Figures at the Base of a Crucifixion (1944), the work that made Bacon famous when it was shown in London in the last weeks of World War II. The work set the groundwork for many of the themes that would be important to him for the rest of his life, such as humanity's ability to destroy itself and how it would fare in an age of global war.

During the late 1940s, Bacon changed his earlier Surrealism into an approach that drew from depictions of motion in film and photography, especially the work of the early photographer Eadweard Muybridge, who made studies of people in motion. Bacon not only came up with new ways to show movement in painting, but he also tried to bring painting and photography together in a better way.

Even though Bacon's success was based on his unique approach to figurative art, his views on painting were very old-fashioned. Diego Velázquez's Portrait of Pope Innocent X (c. 1650) was a big inspiration for him. He used it as the basis for his own famous "screaming popes." At a time when many people lost faith in painting, Bacon said that his own work "deserves either the National Gallery or the trash can, with nothing else in between."
