The Precision Hybrid Method: Where Science Meets the Soul
In the world of fine art commissions, there is a wide gap between a "guess" and a "guarantee."
Most traditional copyists work from the naked eye, leading to subtle proportional errors—a hand slightly too large, an eye out of alignment. At our Saigon Atelier, we believe that when recreating a 20th-century masterpiece, "almost right" is not enough. We employ a sophisticated Hybrid Precision Method that ensures 1:1 museum fidelity while maintaining the rich, tactile soul of French oil on Italian canvas.
Phase I: The Geometrical Skeleton (The "Map")
Every commission begins with a digital proportional under-mapping. We use high-resolution archival files to lay down a precise skeletal guide directly onto the canvas.
-
Why we do this: This is not the painting; it is the Map. It ensures that the geometry of a Picasso or the architectural lines of a Lempicka are mathematically identical to the original. We remove the "human error" of sketching to focus entirely on the "human genius" of painting.
Phase II: The Support (Architectural Italian Cotton)
We have selected Fine-Grain Italian Cotton as our primary support. While linen is often used for rustic textures, Italian cotton provides a superior, ultra-smooth surface.
-
The Benefit: This stability allows for the crisp edges and subtle, smooth glazes required for mid-century modern works. It is the "Architect’s Canvas"—designed for precision and longevity.
Phase III: The Medium (The French Heritage)
Saigon has been a hub of French artistic influence for over a century. To honor this, we exclusively use Pébéo Professional Oils, imported from France.
-
The Application: We do not simply "tint" the under-map. We build the work layer by layer. Every inch of the surface is covered in physical oil paint. The "map" disappears beneath 15 to 20 layers of pigment, creating the depth, light-refraction, and texture that a digital print can never possess.
Phase IV: The Manual Overlay (The Physicality)
The final 80% of the timeline is dedicated to manual impasto and glazing. Using French-made brushes and palette knives, we apply the "personality" of the work.
-
The Touch Test: When you run your hand across one of our commissions, you feel the ridges, the peaks of the paint, and the physical weight of the oil. You are not touching a print; you are touching a hand-wrought oil painting built upon a foundation of absolute accuracy.
