Peder Mork Monsted was a Danish realist painter who lived from 1859 to 1941 and is best known for his landscape works. Monsted was born in Balle, which is south of Gren on the most eastern part of the peninsula of Jylland in western Denmark. He went to the school in Copenhagen and studied under Andreas Fritz and Julius Exner. Monstead made his home in Copenhagen, but he moved a lot in Europe, North Africa, and the Middle East.
Throughout his work, Monsted painted the Danish countryside and coast, giving a romantic and poetic view of nature. With an eye for color and detail, he quickly became known for being able to show how grand and important the scenery was. Monsted studied a lot of different art styles, which gave him the ability to combine academic realism with a photorealistic style.
